Support Staff - Miss Barnaby, Miss Herbert & Mrs Ray
It is very important that our children get the best start to their education at Longlands School and we believe that our Early Years Foundation Stage Nursery and Reception classes provide just that. We have a busy, fun and nurturing environment that is well equipped to be able to help the children develop a range of skills academically and socially.
The children have daily opportunities to play with a range of resources inside and outdoors. Adults also lead sessions where children focus on a particular area of learning.
Parents are involved in their child's learning by being encouraged to come into the classroom and see what activities are available. Every child has a ‘Learning Journey’ folder and parents meet with their child’s teacher each term to discuss their child’s development.
Teachers plan activities that are related to children's interests and an exciting and stimulating environment is provided with learning through play being central to all that we do.
Topics are planned that follow the children’s interests, capture their imagination and develop their learning in the following areas:
* Communication and Language
* Physical Development
* Understanding the world
* Expressive arts and design
We also follow the Jigsaw scheme of work brings together Personal, Social, Health and Economic education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development. Each half term there is a different focus, such as ‘Being Me My World’, ‘Healthy Me’ and ‘Dreams and Goals’.
